Anatomy of Each Issue
Our solo format and the extra size of each issue of Dek Unu Magazine. allows us to provide an outstanding showcase for much more of each photographer's work and words than is typical of many similar publications. Each issue is professionally-designed and hosted to present an exceptionally good-looking product to represent the artist's brand out in the world. Between the covers, both the online and print editions contain:
-
Introduction: A short essay that introduces the artist and work in the context of the bigger picture of contemporary fine art photography.
-
Portfolio: 11 images, curated by the artist, presented as a slide show with a click-to-zoom option.
-
Artist's notes: There is space for a comment for each portfolio image, 10-250 words, that adds perspective, texture, history, or a parallel story to the one told by the photography. Online, each comment follows its image on a successive slide; in print, the notes appear on each image's facing page.
-
Interview: The interview, approximately 3500 words, draws questions from the original proposal, website, socials, and other publications to build a picture of the artist's life and times.
-
Extras: We use "incidental" photographs, 6-8 images and a headshot, of and by each artist to enhance the interview, to add context and texture to the story.
We develop everything in close collaboration with the photographer, each issue's "editor-in-chief."
